Nate Dunham was a product of the tiny farming and ranching communities served by the consolodated high school of Almira-Coulee-Hartline (ACH). Nate starred as a prep athlete outstanding enough, as an all-state selection, to go on to play basketball for Whitworth College. He concluded his career for the Pirates as the final NAIA basketball All-American in school history (Whitworth joined the ranks of NCAA Division 3). By the time Dunham's career was over, he had scored 1,551 points, grabbed 678 rebounds and made 61.2% of his shots from the field - a Whitworth record. As a senior, Nate led the Pirates to a 26-5 record, a NCIC championship and to the brink of the NAIA Division II national championship before losing in overtime. Dunham was named an NAIA Division II First Team All-American, as well as the NCIC "Player of the Year" after averaging 16.5 points and 7.8 rebounds. As a junior he led Whitworth to a record of 18-10, including a victory over NCAA Division 1 Eastern Washington. Dunham was selected to the All-NCIC First Team after averaging 17.2 and 7.4 rebounds per game that junior season. He started all 26 games as a sophomore and averaged 12.2 points and 4.5 rebounds. Even as a freshman, Nate played in every game averaging 9.0 points and 4 rebounds.
