Terry Ellis
Track & Basketball
Terry set a state high jump record as a junior at the 1978 1A track meet by soaring 7-2 1/4. He had declined to jump until the bar reached 6-8 in the competition, which was cleared without removing his sweat pants. Although his family resided in Twisp, Terry competed for Pateros High School because his school didn't have a track team at that time. The record stood as the highest in Washington state until 1984. In an exhibition, Terry cleared 7-5. He was also an all-league basketball player and went on to compete in both sports for Wenatchee Valley College. A knee injury prevented him from competing for Arizona State University.
