Big Jeff was a mountain of high school athlete at 6'4", 262-lbs. A center on offense and tackle defensively, he was an imposing force confronting gridiron opponents. As a senior, he was named to the "Rivals.com second All-State offensive team." Jeff was an "All-Big Nine" offensive lineman and "second team" defensive lineman in 2005, and "second team" offensive lineman as a junior. He served as a team captain and completed his high school football career in the "East-West All-State Football Game."

A classic 'weightman' for the Panther track team, Jeff ranked as one of WHS's best ever in both the shot and discus. He was a two-time district champion and "All-Big Nine." The two-time state track meet competitor also served as team captain.

Jeff was known to 'clean the boards' in basketball as a starter and team captain his senior year. He earned a total of nine varsity letters.

At Whitworth, his substantial athletic ability was put to use in both football and track. As a gridder, he was a two-year "All-Northwest Conference" offensive tackle. In track, Jeff was a four-time "NCAA-III All-American" in the shot - twice outdoor and twice indoor. He had the second farthest throw in school history and ranked #1 in the nation with a put of 57-9 in 2010. He won a total of six NWC championships in the shot, discus and hammer. Jeff was "NCW College Male Athlete of the Year" in 2009 and honored as a finalist four times.
