With cat-like quickness, Ron rallied to the pinnacle of state prep tennis play. As a senior, he won the "Washington High School Singles Championship" and led the Panthers to the team title as well. A number one seed in the tournament, Ron dropped only four points in four matches prior to decisively winning the finals 6-2, 6-0. As a junior, he placed second at state.
Ron also won a pair of back-to-back "Inland Empire singles championships" as a junior and senior. He was the dominant player at districts with a pair of singles and a doubles championship. In all likelihood, Ron would have won a third district singles title as a senior, but unselfishly stepped aside and only played doubles to pave the way for a Panther teammate to gain the championship.
He received a scholarship to the University of Oregon and became the team's number one singles player. Ron also played as a member of the Ducks' top doubles duo.
