RINO Bowl XXII turned out to be a stocking full of dough for Joey 'The Geek' Gaspers representing Idaho. Not only did 'The Geek' win the RINO Masters, surpassing Kevin Spaeth's one year-old record for percentage of correct picks, he also ended regular RINO Bowl play in a three-way deadlock for the top spot. As is customary, an embarrassing tiebreaker was staged at the annual Wenatchee North Christmas do - this year hiking a mini-Wazzu football five yards into a cat bed. For the most part, it was a pathetic, albeit spirited, competition. 'The Geek' stooped first, and managed to get two of five into the recepticle. Bob 'Bullwinkle' Bullis (Temple) did the deed next, utilizing an awkward, left handed snapping technique, and bagged one. Bringing up the rear was aptly named Ivan 'The Terrible' Christensen (Western Washington) who registered a dreaded doughnut hole. So, first, second and third place earnings went in that same order. The hike-off for fourth was captured by Joe 'The Great' Gamboni (Knox) in a sudden death tiebreaker of a tiebreaker with Jim 'The Biggest Little Trophy Dealer' Haglund (Eastern Washington). Also in the running for fourth, but falling by the wayside, were Gordi 'Chia Pet' Northrup (Eastern Oregon), Kevin Spaeth (Central Washington) with Chris Baker as squat-in, and Bud 'Big Horn' Truswell (Puget Sound) with niece Ann Gaspers doing the snapping.
Since 'The Geek' won the RINO Masters outright, hiking for second was actually staged prior to the previously described RINO Bowl tiebreaker. First to pass the ball between his legs was Greg 'Nose' Brown (hiking for Kevin Spaeth). It was thought that Brown would be an unfair sub because he played center in high school way back when. But he proved that although he could hit his own ass with a snap, hiking into a cat bed was way beyond his skill set. The result was zero for five. Next up, Jeff 'O'Ralphie' Mertes, despite nearly passing out when he assumed the position, put the third of three into the target, then retired at that point.
Bryan 'The Unknown Banker' Campbell, down near the bottom of the RINO Bowl ladder, was the lucky recipient in the RINO Bowl Drawing.
