Individual defensive player
(IDP) analysis to match offensive player rating

By - Jeff Mertes

Individual defensive players (IDP) have been treated more or less like ugly stepchildren in fantasy football circles despite the trend that slobber knockers are being counted in more and more leagues every year.  Performance predictions have been enigmatic at best with tangible defensive player advice about as easy to find as a 400-pound nose tackle with 4.8 speed.

Managing fantasy football teams no longer has to be done with the tank ‘half-empty.’  FANTASY Gas treats both sides of the ball equally by providing high-octane advice to “fuel” defensively as well as offensively.  The idea is to offer a competitive edge by rating and ranking individual players in depth, on both sides of the ball, based on logical factors that have been painstakingly researched.

Each position common to fantasy football has been scrutinized with player age and experience, individual and team performance, coaching philosophies and tendencies, and, during the season, opponent’s tendencies factored in to predict likely productivity.  FANTASY Gas analysis has been devised to be ‘forward looking’ rather than dwelling exclusively in past performances.  Although the guts of the system are quite complex, the information is presented in a quick, easy to read and comprehend manner that every fantasy football team owner can assimilate and utilize.

A major hurdle for IDP analysis is to provide predictions based on the two most widely used defensive systems in fantasy football – tackles, interceptions and sacks (TIS), and interceptions and sacks (IS).  As would be expected, defensive player ratings at each position vary dramatically depending on which scoring system is utilized.  Consequently, FANTASY Gas IDP ratings and rankings are devised separately to provide information that is most useful for each team’s needs.  The basis for FANTASY Gas defensive analysis has been developed through fantasy football experience that has included individual defensive players extending back to 1990.

Offensive players are analyzed with the same scrutiny as those on the defensive side of the ball.  The result is a complete package for fantasy football owners who may not have the time or inclination to personally devote to extensive analysis.  FANTASY Gas is a tank full of “ethyl” to give fantasy football competitors a boost when putting the pedal to the metal all season long.  Fill ‘er up!
