Wenatchee North Rotary, located in Wenatchee, Washington, was established with a primary focus of supporting youth sports activities and helping young people, in general. As an extension of Wenatchee North's focus, Don Elliston and Don Schoening, among other club members, envisioned a Sports Awards Banquet to honor North Central Washington's finest athletes, teams and coaches, as well as generate revenue to help the area's athletics and youth. The inaugural banquet took place in 1971.
Wenatchee North is proud of the support it has provided to worthy activities locally, nationally and internationally. For example, the club donated $25,000 to complete the softball stadium on the Wenatchee Valley College campus and was honored by having it named "North Rotary Park" and continues to play an integral role in the development of Rotary Park on Western Avenue. Currently, Wenatchee North sponsors a school in the Guatamalan Literacy Program, supports Rotaplast - a Rotary humanitarian volunteer program to provide surgery for impoverished children in South America and Asia to correct cleft palates, sponsors numerous college scholarships including Scholar-Athlete, academic recognition and "New Frontiers" (for low income, usually first generation college bound students), provides grants to worthwhile programs, and supports Rotary International projects including the highly acclaimed campaign to eradicate polio known as Polio-Plus. The active membership is also a consistent source of volunteers who lend a hand at events and projects such as Red Cross blood drawings, Salvation Army Christmas fund raising and highway cleanup.
